A Geo-Inquiry Workshop for Hawaii’s Public School Teachers

On Saturday April 21st, 2018, The Merwin Conservancy hosted a workshop for twenty public school teachers in Hawaiʻi, focusing on National Geographic Society’s “geo-inquiry” process and using photography as a geo-inquiry tool. The Geo-Inquiry Process relies on using a geographic perspective, offering a unique lens to analyze space, place, and the interconnections between both the human and natural world.

Sponsored by National Geographic and the Hawaii Geographic Alliance in partnership with the Hawaiʻi Department of Education, this workshop featured instruction and guidance from a very special guest: award-winning National Geographic Explorer Anand Varma. Anand gave a photography lesson to the teachers, and led them on a photo expedition in the Merwin Palm Forest.
