William’s bio-piles honored the full cycle of life: fallen fronds enrich the soil, enriched soil nurtures palms. And while we’re taking care to preserve W.S. Merwin’s library, we’re also taking care to let the books William kept outside and at the ready as he gardened return to the earth with the fronds, in this place he so loved.
In these early months of stewarding the Merwins’ house, we are making discoveries that surprise and delight us. As we go, we’ll share some of these finds with you in a new series called “Storied Objects.” To view other posts in the “Storied Objects” series, click here.
