“In Prose & Palms” Wins Regional Emmy®

June 10, 2020 By Sara Tekula

The 49th Annual Northern California Area EMMY® Awards were presented Saturday evening, June 6th, and we’re thrilled to share the news that “In Prose & Palms”, a short video filmed entirely at The Merwin Conservancy that features our executive director Sonnet Coggins, won the EMMY® Award in the “Short Format Program” category.

The filmmakers, Jason Cutinella (Producer), Gerard Elmore (Director), Kyle Kosaki (Director of Photography), and Shaneika Aguilar (Editor), part of the team at Nella Media Group and NMG Network in Honolulu–made the video for Halekulani‘s online and in-room television channel HalekulaniLiving.tv as a way to remember our founder W.S. Merwin, who passed away in March 2019.

In celebration of their award, the filmmakers shared their gratitude on Instagram–their remarks can be read below.

Congratulations to all who came together to make this beautiful video work!

It’s been a crazy year, but we are honored that our work at #nmgnetwork continues to be recognized. It truly takes a team. We love what we do and we are to lucky have great partners like @halekulanihotel (Living TV) and @hawaiianairlines who give us the freedom to tell their stories. We are proud and honored to share our awards for our films “In Prose & Palms” in the category of short format program and “Hawaiian Airlines-Heart Of Hawaiian” in the category of commercial-single spot or campaign. Congrats to our teams and partners with 2 Emmys®, 4 nominations and the fantastic recognition on a job well done! We could not do any of this without you! 😍🤙🏻 Click our IGTV to watch the full episode of “In Prose & Palms” and swipe through to see more from “Heart of Hawaiian”. #ThankYou to @emmysftv for a fantastic virtual show! #EmmySF2020 #halekulanihotel #halepunawaikiki #hawaiianairlines #nmggrowth

Mazal Tov–most well deserved. And thanks both to William and Sonnet

Congratulations on the Emmy Award! An honor received for a labor of love. I can tell you the entire Merwinconservancy.org website deserves recognition for its magical presence in the world of support for places on earth deserving of preservation. In my heart I carry the “sitting room.” I love my time there. As if I’m actually on Maui hearing, seeing, feeling the birds and the breeze and the palm forest. I especially love the circle of light dancing on the floor of the dojo early on. Peace my friends. Meredith
