Palm trees are important religious symbols.
In the Bible, a triumphant Jesus was greeted by the people of Jerusalem with palms just one week before his death and resurrection, a tradition now known and celebrated as Palm Sunday, the week before Easter. In both the Quran and the Bible, palms are mentioned dozens of times. In Judaism, palms represent peace and plenty. In Islam, the palm is often associated with Paradise. And many ancient eastern and middle eastern religions considered the palm the “tree of life.”
