“I hope students develop a love of math because they see how nature and the world are made up of mathematics.”
Wendy hopes the fellowship will further deepen her empathy for what her middle school students go through socially and emotional every day. She also expects that it will impact her teaching practice by giving her new insights on how to better design learning activities that address social and emotional interests. She believes that the study of mathematics is integral to helping students develop the complex thinking skills necessary to assist them during difficult times. She encourages a growth mindset in her students, so that when they do face obstacles in the real world, they can overcome them. She has an M.A. in Teacher Leadership from National University and a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Hawai’i, Hilo.
