“I want to jump from teaching U.S. History to teaching and exploring how the present is shaped by the past.”
As a U.S. History teacher, Prana focuses on issues of social justice. She has a gift for getting students to open up and enjoys finding new and creative ways to nurture their diverse learning styles. She has a passion for planning innovative curricula that inspires students to interact with history from multiple perspectives. She’s also collaborated on integrative gardening projects for students. In addition to being an educator, Prana is a lauhala weaver and a published poet. She has a B.A. in Hawaiian Studies from the University of Hawai’i at Hilo. What drew her to the fellowship is the idea of being part of a community in which she’ll be called upon to deepen her practices as a teacher and writer.
