Buddha Along the Path

June 25, 2020 By Sonnet Kekilia Coggins

A small structure sits along the path from the carport to William and Paula’s house. It shelters a statue of the Buddha and an incense holder.

In these early months of stewarding the Merwins’ house, we are making discoveries that surprise and delight us. As we go, we’ll share some of these finds with you in a new series called “Storied Objects.” To view other posts in the “Storied Objects” series, click here.

A pleasant break from my work: joining you in taking the stone path to the stone buddha.

Radiate Onto Me, Son of Our Sun.

For the very rope which lays languid over your shoulder
    Tethers me to you
Each time you shine onto me I absorb your warmth
When you pass into me now
Pass by nothing of who I am
For I have soaked up the glory of your radioactive sci fi updo
As Saturn works his magic upon us
Do not deny my latent energy
For I have stores of it for you
    Wordless
    In the dark of night
    Remember my heat
    Son of our son
    Who knows no limits
