In a step towards developing a Maui-based writers-in-residence program at Merwin House, the self-built home where W.S. Merwin has lived and written for nearly 40 years, The Merwin Conservancy has joined the Alliance for Artists Communities (AAC) as an “Emerging Program Member.”
AAC is the trade association for artist residency programs, and, “gives a collective voice on behalf of its members, small and large, that leverages support for the field as a whole; promotes successful practices in the field; and advocates for creative environments that support the work of today’s artists”.
“The Alliance will be an invaluable resource for us as we move forward with the William and Paula Merwins’ vision of preserving their home and palm forest for retreat and study for writers, a core part of our organization’s mission,” said Jason Denhart, Executive Director of The Merwin Conservancy.
Through this membership, The Merwin Conservancy will enjoy a great number of member benefits that will enrich the process of creating a residency program that supports writers.
