In a previous Palm Fact blog post, we talked about a Date Palm in Israel that was successfully germinated from an ancient, 2,000 year-old seed. Well, 10 years later, that Date Palm is now a father! The palm is named “Methuselah” and has grown to over 10 feet tall, is now flowering and producing pollen, and has successfully pollenated a female tree, and… Methuselah can make dates! Isn’t it exciting to know that a 2,000 year old seed can still germinate, and that this ancient DNA and ancestry is now living and reproducing again?
