New Palms Continue to be Discovered in Nature.
In 2008, a humongous palm that flowers itself to death was discovered in Madagascar. This palm represented a completely new palm genus that was previously unknown to science. The palm was named Tahina Spectabilis.
Dr. John Dransfield, of the Royal Botanical Gardens Kew and an Advisor to The Merwin Conservancy, was intimately involved in the documentation of this amazing discovery. For detailed information about this discovery, the Tahina Spectabilis, and Dr. Dransfield’s efforts, please click here.
