The Merwin Conservancy is thankful for your interest and support as we work together to advance and preserve the living legacy of W. S. Merwin and protect his beloved palm forest forever.
And we have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Together, we have accomplished so much to realize the vision and dream of W. S. Merwin to conserve the precious palms of Pe’ahi in perpetuity. Thank you!
Please join us in celebrating important milestones in the evolution of The Merwin Conservancy… success that would not be possible without your support. Thank you!
The Merwin Palm Collection was deemed the third largest collection of palms known to exist in the world. With over 2,740 individual trees, nearly 900 unique horticultural varieties, over 400 taxonomic species and more than 125 genera, this is a living treasure house of palm DNA and one of the most important assemblages of palms on the planet. These findings were reported by world-renowned palm expert Dr. John Dransfield of the Royal Botanical Gardens Kew along with a team of scientists from the National Tropical Botanical Gardens. This extensive project to identify and catalog the palms was made possible by tax-deductible donations from supporters like you. Thank you!
The conservation easement to permanently preserve the Merwin land and palms was executed on October 10 in partnership with our friends at the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust. We are thankful to the Merwin Family for donating this conservation easement which will help save and protect the palm collection forever. We are thankful for the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust and their team. And we are thankful for conservation-minded supporters like you who have joined us to steward and manage this amazing Merwin Palm Collection. Thank you!
The Merwin Family has officially donated the land, the palms and the poet’s home to The Merwin Conservancy through a bequest within their estate, solidifying the future of the Conservancy and our mission. We are thankful to the Merwin Family for their vision to conserve, protect and steward this very special place and preserve this rare, Hawaiian palm forest forever. Thank you!
The Green Room, the Merwin Conservancy’s literary salon series on Maui, has become a “must attend” event! We are excited to announce that Terry Tempest Williams, a legend of environmental literature and a renowned conservationist, naturalist, activist and award-winning author, will join us in The Green Room on January 19, 2015 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. The Green Room is generously sponsored by the FIM Group, and we are thankful for their support. We are also thankful for the enthusiastic response from our attendees and audience members, and hope you will join us on January 19 for the next thought-provoking and inspiring Green Room presentation. Thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving to You and Your Family from The Merwin Conservancy!
