Naomi Shihab Nye – The Green Room no. 3
Friday, September 26, 2014 – 7:00pm (6:30pm doors)
McCoy Theater, Maui Arts and Cultural Center
The Green Room presents award-winning Palestinian-American poet, writer and educator, Naomi Shihab Nye, for a spirited and unabashedly authentic evening. Her talk, “Place,” will explore personal connection with place and is loosely based on her book, Transfer. She will also reflect on the work of Maui’s own Poet Laureate, W.S. Merwin, with whom she has had a decades long relationship, and her 40 years as a “wandering poet,” teaching, writing and spreading peace. A Q&A and book signing will follow. The third in The Green Room series, the evening includes a post-event reception with desserts, beverages and live music in the McCoy Courtyard. All ticket sales benefit The Merwin Conservancy.
“Naomi Shihab Nye breathes poetry like the rest of us breathe air. When she exhales, the world becomes different. Better.” — The Grand Rapids Press
