Gary Paul Nabhan is an internationally-celebrated nature writer, agrarian activist and ethnobiologist who tangibly works on conserving the links between biodiversity and cultural diversity. For such work, Nabhan has been honored as a pioneer and creative force in the “local food movement” and seed saving community by Utne Reader, Mother Earth News, New York Times, Bioneers, and Time magazine.
His books include Coming Home to Eat, Why Some Like It Hot, Cumin, Camels, and Caravans: A Spice Odyssey, Where Our Food Comes From, and Singing the Turtles to Sea.
He has been honored with a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship and The John Burroughs Medal for nature writing. Founder and facilitator of the Renewing America’s Food Traditions collaborative, he is currently a Research Social Scientist at the Southwest Center at the University of Arizona.
Mr. Nabhan will make an appearance in The Green Room, The Merwin Conservancy’s environmental and literary salon series, in conjunction with the Indigenous Crop Biodiversity Festival, Maui’s parallel event to the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Honolulu.
This very special evening includes a presentation by Gary Paul Nabhan and reception to follow with live music from Halemanu, 100% local dessert provided by edible Hawaiian Islands, book fair provided by Barnes & Noble, and book signing with Mr. Nabhan.
Tickets are $25 or $10 for students with valid I.D.
